Tuesday Tips!

So you are trying to eat more healthily…..but you are struggling to understand portion sizes and how your plate should look!

Hopefully this helpful little picture that I found today could help!

Fill half of your plate with leafy greens and crunchy vegetables, such as swiss chard, bak choi, brocolli, french beans, brussell sprouts, kale or spinach.

No more than quarter of your plate should be taken up with whole grains and / or legumes such as brown rice, quinoa, kidney beans, black beans or lentils.

The last quarter of your plate should be taken up with a palm sized portion of a healthy protein, such as lean meat, eggs, fish, or vegetarian protein.

The other basic rules for healthy eating are

  • drink plenty of water
  • reduce (or eliminate) alcohol consumption
  • stop smoking
  • avoid overly sweetened or salted foods and drinks
  • replace carbonated drinks for healthier options
  • don’t eat to late into the evening – your food needs to digest BEFORE you go to bed, not while you are sleeping!!
